Common Errors
Presentation exceeding 15-minute time limit
Fix: Defense format: 15 minutes presentation + 45 minutes Q&A + 15 minutes design scenario (some formats: 75 min total). Going over the 15-minute presentation limit cuts into Q&A time — panelists will interrupt. Practice with a timer. Cover: business context, key requirements, architecture overview, top 5 design decisions. Details come in Q&A.
Presenting technology features instead of design rationale
Fix: BAD: 'vSAN supports RAID-1 and RAID-5 erasure coding.' GOOD: 'I chose RAID-1 for clinical workloads because the EHR vendor requires mirrored storage (REQ-003), and the 40% read performance advantage justifies the 2× capacity cost for this 80%-read workload profile.' Present YOUR reasoning for YOUR customer.
Not preparing for 'I don't know' scenarios
Fix: Panelists will ask questions you can't answer — this is intentional. The test is your response: 'I don't know off the top of my head, but here is how I would investigate: check the VMware Compatibility Guide for that specific hardware model, validate in our Holodeck lab, and consult with the Broadcom field team.' Never guess.

Design Reflection (VCDX)
The mock defense is your most important preparation activity. Practice the 15-minute presentation until you can deliver it without notes and within time. Practice answering unexpected questions with the RCAR-trace-back methodology.
⚠ Known Pitfalls (from Community KB)
Spending 15 minutes on slides about 'VCF overview' — panelists know VCF. Spend 15 minutes on YOUR design decisions.
Guessing when you don't know the answer — 'I don't know but here is how I would find out' scores higher than a wrong guess.
